Your customer will present a payroll check or other qualified check payable to the name of the customer presenting the check. First the customer will enter their Social Security number twice in the attached PINpad. Then the cashier will automatically feed the check through the check imager as well as scan the customer’s driver’s license (for first time customers only) or other acceptable form of ID and then key in the dollar amount. Within a few seconds via IP or Dialup the transaction will be approved, if the system determines the check to be valid, and a receipt will print out for your records. You can then rubber stamp the check as electronically submitted and simply store it away. The cashier will then hand the customer their cash less a percentage of your choosing such as 3%. The next business day the funds for the full face value of the checks will be deposited into your checking account. When the transaction is approved you will be guaranteed the funds even if the check bounces. It really is that simple.
Just in case you are wondering why you cannot do electronic conversion, the reason is because NACHA rules currently do not allow conversion for checks which are not made out to the name of the business converting the check.
